How old are you?

Oscar:

14 -- I'll be 15 on January 11, 1993

Where were you born?

Oscar:

Wareham Massachusetts  at Tobey Hospital

Do you have any brothers or sisters?

Oscar:

I have one sister—Kiara Gypsy Montejo

Do you know what type of heart disease you have been diagnosed with?

Oscar:

Dextracardia and hetarotaxy—That means that my heart is on the other side of my body

Do you feel that having this heart condition has put limitations on how you live you life?

Oscar:

There’s some limitations-like I can’t play football and basketball.  I can’t do any cardiovascular activities.  But I still        like to skateboard and ride my dirtbike…I just have to stop and rest when I get tired.

What do you tell people when they see your scar on your chest?

Oscar:

I tell them that I had open heart surgery-that I was born without a chamber in my heart

When I was little I used to tell them that I was attacked by a shark

Since your last surgery have you had to have any other procedures or surgeries?

Oscar:

I haven’t had to have any more surgeries.  I did have to have a few coil immobilizations when I was younger and I             had one about 2 years ago

How was that?

Oscar:

It was actually pretty boring…I just had to lay there while they put these copper coils in my artery in my leg and then       the coils go up the artery into my heart and plug all the little veins that keep growing off my heart

Knowing how it affects your heart, how do you feel about cigarettes, drugs and alcohol?

Oscar:

I would never try cigarettes because I don’t like them.  I tried alcohol once but didn’t like it. I know it’s not good for my       heart but I don’t want to try them anyways because I don’t like cigarettes.  I have never tried drugs and don’t               want to try them either

Let’s talk about your sister…How do you feel about her?

Oscar:

She’s allright…Sometimes she annoys me but she’s younger than me so I have to watch out for her.

What is life like living on a small island?

Oscar:

I like it…it’s sunny most of the time and there’s lots to do like surfing, swimming, and skateboarding. I like to ride my        dirt bike but I don’t get to do that too often because we have to go pretty far to ride.

What don’t you like about living there?

Oscar:

Too many tourists!

What is your favorite hobby?

Oscar:

Surfing, skating, going out in the mountains and riding my dirtbike

How do you feel about school? Do you like it?

Oscar:

I like school allright.

Do you have a favorite subject?

Oscar:

Yeah I really like P.E. and Science

What subject do you like the least?                         

Oscar:

Definitely Math!

If you had one wish what would it be?

Oscar:

Probably have a million bucks!

I heard that you wrote a rap song about your heart condition a while ago? Do you want to talk about that? What would you like to do with it?

Oscar:

I don’t really want to talk about it.  I might have it published one day but I don’t know if I would want anyone to sing it
