My name is Oscar Armando Montejo III.  I was born January 11, 1993 in Wareham, Massachusets.  I was also born with a heart condition known as Dextracardia.  My "Zini" and I came up with this idea to design this webpage and my signature Triple Chocolate Mocha Silk Pie especially for every person or their loved one that is living with heart disease.
I'd like to tell you about my grandson Oscar or "Little Oscar" as all of the family affectionately call him.  Oscar was born in January, 1993 to my daughter Erin and her fiance' Oscar Montejo II.  Erin's pregnancy was an uneventful one and we were all looking forward to a healthy baby. Oscar's attending physician was an old family practitioner and without him I don't believe that Oscar would be with us today.  When Oscar was born his doctor noticed that he was not getting the oxygen he needed and told Erin that he believed Oscar was having problems with his heart. He immediately began giving Oscar oxygen and ran the needed tests to figure out what the problem was.  Oscar was immediately transferred to Massachusets Childrens hospital and his care was taken over by Dr. Lang, a pediatric cardiologist at Mass General.  Oscar's first surgery to insert a Blalock-Taussig shunt was performed when he was one day old.  Dr. Lang informed us that he had diagnosed Oscar with Dextracardia and a type of Heterotaxy known as Right Atrial Isomerism.  Dr. Lang informed us that he would repair Oscars heart in a series of surgeries known as the Fontan Procedure.  Oscar underwent his second heart surgery when he was nine months old and his final open heart surger when he was 18 months old.  He also had to undergo several coil immobilizations during the course of these surgeries.  Oscar is now 14 years old and was given a clean bill of health at his last visit in 2005 with Dr. Lang.  For all of his family, this was wonderful news!  Unfortunately, with this type of disease, nothing is for sure.  He was asked to come back to Mass General in 5 years for a new checkup and to see how his heart is handling his body growing and maturing.
During these years with Oscar I have come to know and understand the pain, frustration, fear and all other emotions that other families must go through when someone they love is diagnosed with this disease.  I decided that I want to do something that may help others that are going through this with someone they love and others that may know nothing about heart disease.  My grandson and I have designed his "SIGNATURE" Silk the "Triple Chocolate Mocha Mousse" especially for everyone that would like to do their part in helping to wipe out this terrible disease.
For every Signature dessert sold, Alaska Silk Pie Company will donate 10% to the Save-A-Heart Foundation to help with heart disease.
Please help us in finding a cure to prevent this disease!!
We will be continuously updating this web page with information on Oscar and how he is doing so please come back for further updates.
Thank you,
